Lately I have been in India for a while to search for products which appeal to
me. It had to be products which had something to do with the country and
not some kind of western product which I could buy for a small prices.
A voyage which I won't forget in a lifetime. I have visited many
workshops, Workshops because you can't call them factories. In small
numbers people work on the products in their homes which are picked up
by their employers ones a week or ones a month,
depending of the type of product. There are of course also big factories but most
of the time western products are made over there and the creative mind
of the employees is unfortunately turned off. Not very surprising of
course because there is only one rule; money has to be made to support
the whole family and the rest is unimportant. Fortunately I have also
come across lots of workplaces where beautiful handmade products are
being developed. To give you an impression of these workplaces, I have
included with almost every product group some information about how and
where these products are being made. In this way I try to take you with
me in my experience so you will appreciate the products more and you
justly can say you have brought a piece of the real India in to your
home. A special aspect of the products is that because of the individual
creativity of the makers they are not always and can't be all 100% the
same. Of course this depends on the product but always take into account
that a handmade product always differs some 5% of the showed model on
the photo. I myself find this the beauty of the products because behind
every product, a person, a face, an emotion can be found. This makes
this creator in something grand.... an artist. Enjoy your time looking
around.
